The Porsche Museum is honoring an extraordinary achievement with a special exhibition dedicated to the 911's remarkable altitude world record. Two specially modified 911 models, nicknamed 'Edith' and 'Doris', successfully ascended the Ojos del Salado volcano in Chile, reaching an astonishing altitude of 6,721 meters.
A Feat Beyond Speed
The exhibition showcases two Porsche 911 off-road prototypes that set a world record by climbing 6,721 meters up the Ojos del Salado volcano.
This unique exhibition, running until June 28, 2026, moves beyond traditional racing metrics to celebrate a feat measured in vertical meters. Curator Tanja Schleicher highlighted that these vehicles represent an achievement "that cannot be measured in lap times or top speeds, but in metres above sea level."
An Immersive Expedition Experience
The museum has recreated the expedition's final destination by displaying 'Edith' and 'Doris' at the highest point of the exhibition space. A visual narrative guides visitors through the journey, detailing altitude profiles, the expedition's stages, challenging climatic conditions, and the technical adaptations made to the vehicles. Large-format graphics illustrate the route, with Porsche works driver Romain Dumas at the wheel for key segments.
The exhibition delves into the extreme conditions faced, including low oxygen levels, temperatures dropping to minus 20 degrees Celsius, strong winds, and gradients up to 40 percent. A significant focus is placed on the use of synthetic fuels, as the record was achieved using eFuels.
Pushing Engineering Boundaries
The exhibition features two 992-generation Porsche 911 Carrera 4S models. 'Doris' represents the initial stage, while 'Edith' showcases the optimized version. Project manager Jens Kayser explained that 'Edith' achieved a weight reduction of approximately 360 kilograms and specific optimizations crucial for the demanding environment. This reflects Porsche's tradition of gaining insights from extreme conditions to enhance production models.
Raceborn Moment Film
Complementing the exhibition, a 15-minute film titled "Raceborn Moment" was released on May 9, 2026, on the Porsche YouTube channel. This film, part of a series celebrating "75 Years of Motorsport," offers a closer look at the people, decisions, and pivotal moments of the mountain expedition.
