Ghiretti Takes Dominant Victory at Spa
Porsche Junior Alessandro Ghiretti delivered a masterful performance at Spa-Francorchamps, securing a commanding victory in the fifth round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. Navigating a challenging rain-soaked track, the 23-year-old Frenchman led his Schumacher CLRT teammate Flynt Schuring to a dominant one-two finish. This win propels Ghiretti to the top of the championship standings, overtaking Robert de Haan.
A Masterclass in Mixed Conditions
Ghiretti's second win of the season came after a flawless drive on the demanding Spa circuit.
He finished a significant 8.6 seconds ahead of his teammate Schuring.
The mixed weather conditions played to Ghiretti's strengths, allowing him to manage tires and strategy effectively.
"I felt extremely comfortable in my Porsche 911 GT3 Cup," said a jubilant Ghiretti. "I love these mixed conditions, where it’s not just about outright speed but also strategy. I was able to eke out a small advantage right at the start, which helped me manage my tyres over the race. I’m delighted to be leading the championship, but everything is still wide open."
Schuring Secures Strong Second
Flynt Schuring, the fastest rookie, was thrilled with his second-place finish. "That was a tough race today," commented the 18-year-old Dutchman. "Some parts of the track were almost dry, others still very wet. You had to attack, but at the same time conserve the tyres. It’s been a fantastic day for the team – P1 and P2, what more could you want?"
De Haan Loses Championship Lead
Robert de Haan, who started the race as the championship leader, finished third. He faced pressure from Ariel Levi in the closing laps but managed to hold on to the final podium spot. "P3 is good, and I’ve scored valuable points. The championship is still wide open," de Haan stated. "I don’t look too closely at the standings; my goal is simply to win the next race in Budapest."
Oeverhaus Faces a Challenging Weekend
Porsche Junior Theo Oeverhaus had a difficult outing, finishing 13th after starting 19th. This result saw him slip from third to sixth in the overall standings. "The race didn’t go the way I’d hoped," admitted Oeverhaus. "But today we just couldn’t find the right balance."
Championship Battle Heats Up
Oliver Schwab, Project Manager of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, praised the drivers for their exciting performances in challenging conditions. "The championship couldn’t be more exciting," he noted. "Our Porsche Junior Alessandro Ghiretti drove in a league of his own today and now rightfully leads the standings. But we’ve seen in recent races how quickly things can change with such a competitive field."
The next round of the 2025 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup will take place on August 3rd at the Hungaroring in Hungary.
