French driver Marvin Klein secured a dominant victory at the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in Spielberg, marking his first win of the season. His BWT Lechner Racing teammate, Robert de Haan, finished second, propelling him to the top of the championship standings at the halfway point. Porsche Junior Alessandro Ghiretti completed the podium, while former points leader Theo Oeverhaus faced an early retirement.
Klein and De Haan Dominate Spielberg
Marvin Klein of BWT Lechner Racing clinched a significant victory at the Spielberg circuit, the fourth round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. Starting from second, Klein quickly overtook polesitter and teammate Robert de Haan at the start, maintaining his lead throughout the shortened 17-minute sprint race. De Haan's second-place finish was crucial, as it elevated him to the provisional lead in the overall championship standings.
Klein expressed his satisfaction, stating, "The start made the difference. I got through Turn 1 cleanly and was in a better position for Turn 3. After that, we executed our plan and got both cars onto the podium. That’s exactly what we needed after a rough start to the season."
De Haan acknowledged his teammate's performance, saying, "My mistake. I had to let Marvin through at Turn 3. He drove a fantastic race and fully deserved to win. I’m still happy though – leading the championship at the halfway mark puts me in a great position going forward."
Championship Shake-Up and Podium Finishers
The Spielberg race significantly altered the championship landscape. Robert de Haan now leads the standings with 52.5 points. Porsche Junior Alessandro Ghiretti, who finished third in Spielberg, is hot on his heels with 50.5 points, just two points adrift. Ghiretti, despite his podium finish, felt there was room for improvement, noting, "Third in the race and second overall in the rankings is a good result, but I know there are a few things I need to work on. We definitely had the potential for more."

Disappointment for Oeverhaus and Burton
The race proved disastrous for former points leader Theo Oeverhaus (Proton Huber Competition). After starting 12th, he was forced into the gravel early on and later shunted out of the race by another competitor. This incident dropped him to third in the overall standings, 9.5 points behind de Haan.
Another driver facing misfortune was Gus Burton (Proton Huber Competition). After running a strong race in sixth, he was spun out on the final lap by his own teammate, falling back to 18th. "That’s incredibly frustrating – it would’ve been my best Supercup result so far," a disappointed Burton commented.
Looking Ahead to Spa-Francorchamps
Oliver Schwab, Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup Project Manager, commented on the race: "As unfortunate as the shortened race was, the drivers more than made up for it with a spectacular show. Up front, Marvin and Robert controlled the race perfectly and delivered a dream result for BWT Lechner Racing at their home event. The standings have been shaken up, and the second half of the season promises to be thrilling."
The next round, the fifth of the 2025 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season, will take place from July 25-27 at the iconic Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium, as part of the Belgian Grand Prix weekend.
