Porsche Penske Motorsport is aiming to extend its perfect record at Road America this weekend as the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship heads to the iconic Wisconsin circuit for its eighth round. The German manufacturer has been undefeated at the track since the introduction of LMDh regulations, seeking another victory to bolster its championship lead.
Porsche's Dominance at Road America
Porsche Penske Motorsport has enjoyed significant success at Road America in recent years, securing victories in the last two seasons. This streak makes the team determined to maintain its unbeaten run in the upcoming 160-minute sprint race. Team's Preparations and Expectations
Vice President Porsche Motorsport, Thomas Laudenbach, expressed confidence in the team's prospects, stating, "We want to keep this winning streak alive and clinch another victory." He anticipates an exciting and open race in the GTP class as the championship battle intensifies. Director Factory Motorsport LMDh, Urs Kuratle, echoed this sentiment, calling Road America a "perfect match" for the Porsche 963 and aiming for another triumph.
Jonathan Diuguid, Managing Director Porsche Penske Motorsport, highlighted the team's recent private test to ensure readiness for the challenge. "With only three races left in the championship, it’s important to continue to execute and capitalize on the opportunities that present themselves," he commented.
The Contenders and the Track
Porsche Penske Motorsport will field two Porsche 963s in the GTP category. The No. 6 car will be driven by championship leaders Matt Campbell and Mathieu Jaminet, while the No. 7 car will be piloted by Felipe Nasr and Nick Tandy. JDC-Miller MotorSports will also enter a Porsche 963, driven by Gianmaria Bruni and Tijmen van der Helm.
In the GT classes, AO Racing's "Rexy" Porsche 911 GT3 R, driven by Laurin Heinrich and Klaus Bachler, will aim to reclaim the GTD Pro points lead. Wright Motorsports will field another Porsche 911 GT3 R in the GTD class with Adam Adelson and Elliott Skeer.
Road America, a 6.515-kilometer circuit known for its fast, undulating layout and picturesque setting, offers several overtaking opportunities. The track's resurfacing has further increased average speeds, making it a thrilling venue for both drivers and fans who can experience the speed up close.
