Pascal Wehrlein secured his 14th podium of the season at the London E-Prix, further solidifying Porsche's strong performance in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. The German driver's third-place finish contributed crucial points to Porsche's championship campaigns, setting the stage for an exciting season finale.

Key Takeaways

  • Pascal Wehrlein achieved his 14th podium of the season with a third-place finish in London.

  • Porsche extended its lead in both the Manufacturers' and Teams' Championships.

  • Teammate António Félix da Costa finished 14th after an incident and front wing change.

  • Jake Dennis of Andretti Formula E dropped to eighth after a time penalty.

London E-Prix Performance

Pascal Wehrlein, driving for the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team, qualified strongly and converted that into a podium finish. "Another podium with P3 today. A good step in the right direction of winning more championships," stated Wehrlein. "We still need some points, but we can be happy with today’s race. We did exactly what we wanted although I tried to achieve more than third place, but it wasn’t there. We will try to make it even better tomorrow."

Wehrlein's teammate, António Félix da Costa, faced a more challenging race. Starting from 17th, he fought his way into the points but was involved in a collision that necessitated a front wing change, ultimately finishing 14th. "A difficult day," Félix da Costa commented. "Unfortunately, when I was in Attack Mode with more power, the car in front had a power cut and it was impossible to avoid hitting him. It was a positive day for the team with Pascal in P3 and increasing the gap in the Teams’ Championship."

Customer teams also saw mixed fortunes. Jake Dennis, driving for Andretti Formula E, finished fifth on track but dropped to eighth after a time penalty for contact. His teammate Nico Müller finished 15th. Cupra Kiro’s David Beckmann finished 12th, while Dan Ticktum retired after an accident.

Championship Standings Update

Following the London E-Prix, Porsche holds a significant advantage in the championship battles. In the Manufacturers' Championship, Porsche leads Nissan by 23 points. The TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team has extended its lead in the Teams' Championship to 37 points over the Nissan Formula E Team.

In the drivers' standings, Pascal Wehrlein is second with 141 points, while António Félix da Costa sits in fifth with 103 points. The season finale will determine the remaining titles.

Looking Ahead

The final race of the season will also take place in London tomorrow, where Porsche aims to secure both remaining championships. Florian Modlinger, Director Factory Motorsport Formula E, emphasized the importance of the day's results and the focus for the upcoming race: "An important day for us today in both championships and a podium for Pascal after a strong qualifying... But tomorrow is another race day since a lot can happen on this track here in London. It’s key to qualify well. We will work hard to achieve our target of both cars up there in qualifying."
