Pascal Wehrlein secured his sixth podium of the season, finishing third at the London E-Prix. This result marks Porsche's 14th podium of the current ABB FIA Formula E World Championship season and the 10th for the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team. Wehrlein's strong performance included setting the fastest lap, earning an additional championship point.

Key Takeaways

  • Pascal Wehrlein achieved his sixth podium of the season, finishing third in the London E-Prix.

  • This result contributes to Porsche's 14th team podium of the season and extends their lead in the Manufacturers' Championship.

  • TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team also increased their lead in the Teams' Championship.

  • Jake Dennis of Andretti Formula E finished fifth but dropped to eighth after a time penalty.

  • António Félix da Costa faced a challenging race, finishing 14th after a collision.

Wehrlein's Strong Performance

Porsche factory driver Pascal Wehrlein qualified in third place and maintained a podium position throughout the London E-Prix. His consistent performance was further highlighted by setting the fastest lap on lap 20, securing an extra championship point. "Another podium with P3 today. A good step in the right direction of winning more championships," Wehrlein commented. "We still need some points, but we can be happy with today’s race. We did exactly what we wanted although I tried to achieve more than third place, but it wasn’t there. We will try to make it even better tomorrow."

Team and Competitor Standings

Jake Dennis, driving for the customer team Andretti Formula E, finished the race in fifth place but was demoted to eighth due to a time penalty for contact with another car. Wehrlein's teammate, António Félix da Costa, encountered difficulties, finishing 14th after an unscheduled pit stop for a front wing change following a collision. "A difficult day," Félix da Costa stated. "I didn’t do a great job in qualifying and started near the back. I was having a good race and climbing into the points. Unfortunately, when I was in Attack Mode with more power, the car in front had a power cut and it was impossible to avoid hitting him."

Other notable finishes included David Beckmann of Cupra Kiro in 12th, while his teammate Dan Ticktum retired due to an accident. Nico Müller from Andretti Formula E finished 15th.

Championship Battles Intensify

Following the London E-Prix, Porsche holds a significant 23-point lead over Nissan in the Manufacturers' Championship. The TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team has also extended its advantage, now leading the Nissan Formula E Team by 37 points in the Teams' Championship. The final two titles of the season will be decided in the upcoming race.

Florian Modlinger, Director Factory Motorsport Formula E, expressed satisfaction with the day's results: "An important day for us today in both championships and a podium for Pascal after a strong qualifying. António, after missing pace in qualifying, showed a strong performance in the race and had got up to P10. The front wing change meant he didn’t score any points. However, the podium brought us valuable points in the Teams’ Championship, extending our lead there. In the manufacturers’ standings we gained significant points as well, increased our lead from 7 to 23 points. But tomorrow is another race day since a lot can happen on this track here in London. It’s key to qualify well. We will work hard to achieve our target of both cars up there in qualifying."
